About Bont Molding Soxs

How to make your foot Molds using Bont Molding Soxs

Bont Molding sox are an easy way to make a mold of your feet, without the need of specialized casting boxes or making a trip to Melbourne to have your casts made.

The sox are available from Bayside Blades and come with an comprehensive instruction sheet. Below we have listed the 9 easy steps required to successfully using the Molding Sox.

Bont Molding Sox work be placing a specially prepared plaster sock over your foot, which is then wet, goes hard when allowed to dry and can be sent to us to have your custom boot made.

Do not open the molding kit until you are ready to get started

Step 1/ Place a plastic sheet on the floor where you want to do your mold.
Step 2/ Tape the strip of plastic provided to the top of the foot as shown, tape it in place at the toes, the ball of the foot and the ankle.
Step 3/ Place a plastic bag over the foot and wet the plastic that is on the ground
Step 4/  Take the casting sock from the bag and roll it over the plastic bag, onto the foot, as shown. Start at the toes rolling the sock up the leg  as shown in diagrams 4 to 6.
Step 5/ Place the foot into a bucket of water for a few seconds, making sure you get all of the sock wet.
The water sets of the resin.
Step 6/ Stand on the wet plastic, with you feet shoulder width apart and your knee forward over your toes (skating position)
Your knees shouldn't bend past your toes.
Step 7/ While standing on the plastic, squeeze the sock against the foot, working out all wrinkles. Splash extra water onto the sock, work the sock in a around the ankle area as shown in diagram 9

Do this until the sock hardens (about 10 minutes)

Step 8/ Change gloves and repeat the process for the second foot.

If you use orthotics, place these under the plastic sheet and stand on them after wetting the socks, this will ensure the shape of your orthotic is built into the bottom of your foot mold.

Step 9/ Once the socks have hardened, cut the socks down the center of the front section, across the top of the protective strip you taped to the foot, using the scissors provided.

Make sure you cut all the way down to the toes, then slip your foot out of the sock as shown in diagram 10

Once you have finished, place your moulds in a crush proof box, with padding, and send them with the scissors and plastic strips we provided, back to Bayside Blades.
