Victorian Aggressive Championship.
Attracting over 70 competitors and a large contingent of spectators as well the Vic aggressive titles, conducted at the Skate Shed in Cranbourne, were enjoyed by all in attendance.
Eventually winner of the 16yr and under division, Team Bayside Blades skater Sean Allan, (wearing helmet) is seen here chilling with some of his competitors before the finals started.

Congratulation Sean on a great skate.

Slalom / Freestyle clinic a success
Last weekend (5th - 6th May) Bayside Blades played host to world slalom identity Naomi Grigg. As usual Naomi conducted Slalom workshops on Saturday and Sunday, Sundays being held in Melbourne's Alexandra Gardens. This venue turned out to be very suitable for Slalom and is sure to become the place to skate for many of Melbourne's freestyle skaters. Contact the shop if you want more information on Slalom in Melbourne.
Australian Speed Championships
The week from the 9th to the 15th of April saw the Australian Speed Skating championships being run in Adelaide. Both Andrea and myself as well as Team Bayside Blades members, Craig Hawke, Andy Finster, Oliver Lorberg and Sam Evans competed in both the road and track events as well as the Marathon.
Andrea receiving her gold medal for victory in the 1000m road race.

After losing a close race to WA's Leone Pearson in the 500m final the day before Andrea reversed the result here in the 1K event with a win.
Possibly one of the most spectacular finishes of the meet, the Junior 500mm track event saw Corey Williams, Team Bont, cross the finish line head first. Unfortunately for Corey the winner is the first skate over the line and Team Bayside Blades, Oliver Lorberg's, skates were ahead of his. Team Bayside Blades, Sam Evans came in a close third
Without a doubt the hardest fought win of the meet, the Shaun Thompson memorial 20K. Jason Rushen, eventual 3rd place getter, worked hard to break away from the pack, but was eventually caught by the 2 Team Bayside Blades members Sam Evans and Andy Finster. After a massive effort on the last lap Sam headed Andy in the finish straight only to be out lunged by Andy on the line.
After heats and semi finals 4 Masters men lined up for the 500m track final. And what a final it was, five laps later all 4 skaters were still shoulder to shoulder as they lunged to crossed the line.
The result eventually being decided by Skate Australia's officials.

Congratulations Craig on a well earned gold.
